A Type of Pursuit
When preparing for winter, always look north, to Canada. Vanessa, aka The Haute Pursuit, is a fashion icon defined by a consistent partiality for sex and rock and roll. Her style is often a beautiful mess and other times sheer sultry.

Blair
Love this use of color. Brooklyn hipster Morgan Blair combines bright oranges, pinks and turquoises with drab greys and whites to deliver images that helps describe the hipster generation. “Look at me, but don’t.”

Fall in the District of Columbia
It is most definitely fall in DC, and stretchy pants and my favorite blazer tend to be my staple outfit. It’s perfect for going out to the area market for bread and cheese and spending hours on the couch retouching the old resume.

Shapes
From life in the slow lane: A round heart. Three angles of hearts. A square heart. The heart that is all insufficient for me….

On the corner of Winter
Birds travel south for the winter, but this year I traveled north, and I’m on the prowl for that all-purpose winter coat. Creatures of Comfort has some beautiful designs to shroud you from the burn of an icy breeze. In no way can I afford it, but I can admire.

Cookie Boy
Food is art, indeed, and Cookie Boy, based out Japan, is a cookie-art machine. While I can’t say I’ve tried one, I doubt I’d ever get through the plastic seal. I’d probably make a magnet out of it and hang it on my fridge, all the while basking in the glory of knowing my mystery magnet is a cookie and its paint is sugar.

Style Station
My sister lives north of Austin in Waco, Texas. North of Waco is a very cramped, but abundant vintage store for the dabbling-to-passionate Texas hippie. Style Station is a family-owned business where the politics are blue and the mood is yellow.

Mi Viejo
I discovered a deep love for Piero after my Tia Martha departed from this life. My mother and her siblings grew up fairly poor in Ciudad Juarez, the Mexican city bordering El Paso, Texas, where I grew up. My mother and aunts, however, overcompensated for what they lacked as children by stockpiling whatever material goods they owned in their lifetime, just in case, I guess. (Apparently...

Tejas is better than Texas
We made a little visit to the old Tejas town of San Antonio and popped into the town mercado for some light shopping and photographs. I love this town. It’s beautiful and the food, oh my goodness.

FrouFrouu
Nadia, of froufrouu, is to me like a Dostoevsky novel, dark, passionate and sophisticated. She may very well be my favorite fashionista. Her vintage, paisley style is classic in every sense.

Prism of the Mind
New love. Crystals. Credit MANIAMANIA for this majestic little find. Indie princess Bambi and her illusive eyebrows did the photo shoot this collection. Maybe I’ll get lucky and find one with the alchemy to attract high-paying employers in DC.

Business
I really shouldn’t waste my time with this, but I went vintage shopping and bought the earrings and the pants for $1 each, so I couldn’t help myself. I had to share. In fact, this outfit, collectively, probably cost me $30. The shirt is a hand-me down from my dear friend and old roommate Natalia, and the shoes cost about $25 from Forever 21.  Really, I’m not supposed to be...

Sea of Shoes
Speaking of Bianca Jagger, Sea of Shoes blogger Jane Aldridge is looking bold and sophisticated in her big button, cashmere blend pantsuit. I think I’m ready to buy my floppy wide-brimmed black, or white, hat now.

Bianca Jagger
Need I say more? Don’t her style, class and stunning features speak for themselves? I guess I could pontificate on her fame, her marriage and her philanthropy and activism, but it’s too exciting of life. I get the green envy.

Ellen Rogers
London-based photographer Ellen Rogers says she uses only analog materials, and that it’s her darkroom experimentation that produces the effect you see here.

Oh Bird!
I don’t know what this is, if its real or fake, or where it came from, but I had this idea that it would be wonderful if somebody would make a silver baby bird skeleton sculpture pendant. No luck, just this poor little guy. Photo by Tom Pakeman, courtesy of My Ghoul Friday, an odd little blog.

Home is Sweet
I don’t know if I get more reclusive with age — I think I do — but home is my favorite place in the world. When I’m down or disheveled, I’m always comforted by the postcards on the wall, the books on the shelves and the mass accumulation of stuff that is me. It’s like seeing a more beautiful reflection of you in the disorder and order that is my 27-year-old...

Pablo Franco
Sultry Pablo Franco photography reminds you how absolutely beautiful women are, not that anybody needs reminding. Sorry to all the gay boys out there, but women definitely got the better end of the deal. I happen to prefer men, but I can never deny my deep appreciation for the elegance and grace of the female form. I challenge any other alien planet to mold a more attractive body of life.

Hearts
Drawing hearts as pretty little shapes is kind of ironic, considering how truly bulging and flaring and slimy the human heart actually is, and how ugly and destructive and necessary love can be. Thank you to AC BANANAS for once again reminding me of that funny little idea. Oh, and here’s your complimentary case in point. P.S. This is not a reflection of my personal life. I happen to...

Haunt Couture
I have to credit my coworker, @JennaHiller, for the title of this post. I always get a little embarrassed when people I know ask me something about the blog. It’s weird, I don’t know. Anyway, Jenna asked me if the previous title, “I Haunt my Apartment” was a play on the word “haute” as in “haute couture.” Unfortunately, I was not that witty. But, I...

Emanuele Kabu
I love Emanuele Kabu’s art, in part because I like the layering effect that gives 1D art a 3D effect, like pop-up books, but his concepts are so dreamy, like making water and mountains come to life as giant romantic dancing monsters.  Thanks to the lovely Yukimi Nagano’s Electric Forest for this find.

Sur la Plage
“Sur la Plage” by Bea Szenfeld, courtesy of TrendLand, has to be one of the most eye-seducing things I’ve seen in a long, long time. One website said Szenfeld, a Polish artist working out of Sweden, was inspired by “50s burlesque silhouettes and tribalism” and another said it was from “female divers in the 1930’s.” Both said Szenfeld mentioned...

Painted Sticks
Canadian Artist Ginette Lapalme hand-painted some wooden sticks for a T-shirt contest. Trendland found them, I kind of want to make some of my own and give them to Little Dragon next time we see them perform. I think lead singer Yukimi Nagano would love it, or be a little weirded out.

Not Forever 21, but Pretend?
As a journalist, I feel extremely vain for my interests in clothes, accessories and this blog. Everyday I know there are important and heart-wrenching things happening in the world. But, somebody told us somewhere down the line that people like pictures and they like escapism, and it’s near impossible to garner the average American’s attention with just news. So, I make news my day...

Little Miss Tevi
I’m not going to pretend that most of you aren’t already aware of little miss Tevi, a teenage fashion prodigy, and her wise-beyond-her-years musings on feminism, style and image. But, here she is, a beautiful example of why I’m waiting until I’m a little more than financially comfortable before I think about having children.

Kimandra is a beautiful vintage blog boutique, where the photography stands on it own two stilettos. For this find, I have to thank the ever so fascinating Style Bubble.

Louise Bourgeois
I wanted to write my own words about Louise Bourgeois, but The New York Times did it better. “By staying personal, and getting messy with opposites – exquisiteness and grossness, Bernini and bathroom jokes – and being willing to go “too far” without being reckless, she has made art that is the equivalent of a certain kind of diary writing: purgative, but rigorously poetic.” -...

America Day
I decided to take absolutely 0 generic fireworks pictures this Fourth of July. My mother didn’t understand the intention behind this, but I thought it would be fun to see what comes out.  We watched the fireworks from the roof of a building, which we’re pretty sure was prohibited. We thought we were hidden until we looked up at all the surrounding high-rise condos and their...
